Reporter:How do you feel about Sichuan? Nobuyuki Watanabe: I am from Japan. My main responsibilities here are to strengthen the Sino-Japan relationship and exchanges in economy, culture, tourism and youth academic exchanges. Sichuan is a very famous name in Japan for three reasons. First one is the Panda. There are Pandas in Japanese zoo attracting lots of local visitors. Second one is the Romance of Three Kingdoms, a very popular Chinese ancient work in Japan, of which the Kingdom of Shu is most renowned in Japan. Third one is the Sichuan cuisine. When it comes to Chinese food, the Sichuan dishes will come to the Japanese minds, especially the Mapo Tofu, Twice-cooked Pork, Shredded Pork with Green Pepper and Dandan Noodles. People in Japan can cook these dishes at their own kitchens. Though the taste may not be the same, Japanese families still like to cook and eat these food.
Reporter: What do you feel about this exhibition? Nobuyuki Watanabe: This event provides a great opportunity to know the local features, specialties and scenic spots in Sichuan. Lots of information of places in Sichuan can be heard and collected here, which is meaningful.
Reporter: How would you introduce Sichuan to your friends and relatives? Nobuyuki Watanabe: Lots of Japanese people only know Sichuan by the three things that I mentioned earlier. Sichuan is endowed with rich history, culture, natural beauties and tourism resources. The more you know them, the more you find it interesting. So it is my hope that more Japanese people will understand Sichuan better. Currently, there is an increase of Sichuan visitors in Japan. There are many tourist spots in Japan that awaits more visitors from Sichuan. (Reporter: It is also our hope that more Japanese will come to visit Sichuan.)
Reporter: When do you think Japan will reopen to Chinese visitors? Nobuyuki Watanabe: At present, we are in the middle of the pandemic and not sure when it will be over. I believe this crisis will end soon. In 2018, our consulate issued 300,000 visas, last year 380.000 visas, a yearly increase of 25%. Without pandemic, we are sure to issue more visas in 2020. We hope that the pandemic will end as soon as possible so that more people from Sichuan can go and visit Japan. |
